First day of King Alfred’s Way completed. Winchester to Avebury (Marlborough). Left at 7:30am and arrived at Marlborough approximately 5:15.

Absolutely beautiful Route but very challenging due to the wet nature of the bridal ways. The bridal ways are also extremely rutted which has resulted in 4 tumbles today when wheels or pedals have caught on the sides.

I’m completing it on a full suss bike due to the bad weather all last week and Monday. Think I’ve made the right decision - would have been very challenging (off road bits) on a gravel bike.

Highlight of the route today was Stonehenge.

I’ll pass closer to the Uffington Horse tomorrow although not sure if I’ll see it.
